Interesting facts about our National team

Team Breakdown

The 2012 Australian Parachute Team consists of 48 athletes and five officials. Three Australian judges will also be in attendance 

• This is the largest Australian Parachute Team to compete at a WPC event in the sport’s 52 year history

• There are 37 men and 11 women on the team (77% male, 23% female)

• The youngest member of the Team is Russell Blackman (8-Way FS) - 24 (20/07/1988). The oldest member is Graeme Windsor (Para-ski) – 63 (19/01/1949)

• Australia will compete in nine of the 11 discipline events listed in the WPC program (Australia will not compete in AE: Freeflying or CF 4-way Rotation events)

• The largest section of the Team is Formation Skydiving with 25 athletes, the smallest is Artistic Events with two (2) athletes. Australia will also have two competitors competing in the Para-ski demonstration event

Streaks, firsts and records

• Seven out of nine athletes from FS 8-Way team “Velocita” are representing Australian for the first time.

• All five members of Women's FS 4-Way Team "Valkyries" are representing Australia for the first time.

• Wade Edwards (AE: Freestyle) and Amandine Genin (AE: Freestyle) – partners

• Kim Hopwood (VFS) and Jenny Gordon (VFS) – engaged

• Stephanie Vaughan (FS 4-way) and Craig Vaughan (FS-way) – married

Athletes with most and least jumps

• Most Jumps (Male) – Tibor Glesk, Style and Accuracy Landing – 14,000 jumps

• Most Jumps (Female) – Jules McConnel, CF 2-Way Sequential – 6,800 jumps

• Least Jumps (Male) – Vernon Quek, FS 8-Way - 410 jumps

• Least Jumps (Female) – jointly shared by Amandine Genin, AE: Freestyle, and Michelle Hales, Women’s FS 4-Way – 525 jumps


Two athletes and one team manager will celebrate their birthdays during the WPC:

• Scott Brown (CF 2-way and 4-way sequential) will turn 29 on the 5th of December;

• David Boulter (Style and Accuracy Landing) will turn 55 on the 1st of December; and

• Sharney Perrow (Team Manager CP, Style & Accuracy Landing) will turn 33 on the 7th of December.
